Little Moments: What The Heck?

I rush to get up in the morning, I rush to get ready, I rush to work. Then I get to work to encourage my guests to relax and unwind. What is wrong with this picture? I had this "what the heck" moment when I was leaving work last week. A little, tiny leaf appeared beneath me in the parking lot behind my office. I actually took a second to stop-  There it was- a cute little heart shaped leaf, the only one in the entire parking lot. First thing, I took a quick picture. I sent it to the fella right away, he replied, I leaf you. How adorable is that? I got to thinking I leaf me too. I need to stop rushing around like a crazy person just to get to that place of ok now it is time to relax and unwind. So... I am working on that. I went outside behind my building and there are a zillion of these heart shaped leaves laying all over the parking lot. I get it now. Rest is not a reward for all your hard work. Leaf yourself and take time for you.

An Amazing Woman You Need To Know

Deborah Allison, CHHC

As a Certified Holistic Health Coach, I'm your personal guide to living a healthy and energized life.  My mission is to support women and professionals in making the food and lifestyle choices that heal their body and renew their spirit.  I cherish my role as a change facilitator and healthy living advocate for my clients!I didn’t know it at the time, but my early love of cooking would later become a lift-off point for my career as a holistic health coach.  From my early 20’s on…I always thought I was making the right food choices, yet I struggled to maintain my ideal weight and feel healthy.  At 29, and again at 42, I learned that my symptoms of weight gain, sinus infections, allergies, early signs of arthritis and a complete lack of energy were primarily due to food intolerances.  In the process of taking control of my own health, my energy level skyrocketed, my digestion got back on track, my joint pain disappeared, I rarely experienced cravings and, as a natural side effect of all the delicious whole, clean foods, I lost those stubborn 10 pounds. I recognize others who are in the pain that I was once in, who don’t know where to turn and feel frustrated and exhausted.  It became my mission to be the “Nutrition Detective” for women and professionals who have the struggles that I did.  I attended the Institute for Integrative Nutrition and, upon graduation, opened Integrative Holistic Wellness, my private health coaching practice located in beautiful IthacaNew York.  I am board certified by the American Association of Drugless Practitioners and a member of the International Health Coach Association.I take great delight in introducing my clients to the power of eating a clean diet, and what a huge, positive impact this can have on how they feel.  If you’re interested in how I can support you in your health goals, let’s talk!

Introducing Norabloom's Fabulous Massage Therapist, Jenny Chorba, she is our guest blogger of the week. Clap, Clap, Clap!

Change is the only thing constant. As I was driving early this morning I enjoyed the bright sun rising above the horizon, I noticed the change in the air. First of all I was dressed in jeans a sweater and my down vest but there are other subtle changes going on leading us from summer into fall. Have you noticed the days becoming shorter and the cooler nights and mornings leading into a warmer daytime, there are a few trees just starting to look like they may change, the students are back and the kids and teachers are getting ready to head back to school. I’m happy to live in a region that experiences the change of season. I must admit however that autumn is not my favorite time of year. I’m a spring and summer girl. Fall challenges my optimism. This seasonal change is a reminder that life in general is always shifting and moving. It reminds me to join the flow of things without resistance. When I can surrender to change and give up the fight I notice the small joys in it. My natural response to this summer to fall change is to wrinkle my eyebrows and feel cranky that old man winter filled with darkness and cold is on its way but when I practice letting go and joining the dance of change I start to appreciate even more the crisp mornings and the flowers outside and the green grass. So with fall upon us my shift begins with settling into a routine. Being in the massage business I get to witness people go through this as well. Clients that I would see weekly in the winter and spring started coming less in the summer and now have recently started back up their regular self-care routine which for them includes massage. I too have set up my bi-weekly massage appointments to support me emotionally, physically and mentally during this transition of change. I’m learning bit by bit how to take care of myself, how to support my well-being and from past years’ experience I know that although autumn is a beautiful time of year it’s a challenge for me to let go of care free hot weather summer. This fall I know that self-care is my top priority and it will include massage, exercise, cooking lots of veggies and taking time out of my busy schedule to notice the beauty of the changing season.

I Love you to PEACHES

Introducing... Madi Holohan, Aesthetician & Massage Therapist. She is our newest addition to Norabloom. She is wonderful and we love her to PEACHES! Madi will not only be a guest writer for Norabloom's Hello Beautiful Beauty Blog, she will also provide facials, waxing and makeup artistry here at Norabloom Beauty Lounge. Enjoy her first post...

Fresh juicy peaches are at their peak. I cannot get enough of them! What started as a subtle flirtation last week when a dear neighbor gifted me with unhindered access to his orchard has turned into a full blown tryst. Thank goodness I have a very understanding husband; in fact he has encouraged and benefitted from my obsession with this tempting fruit. My lush paramour has been baked into pie, brandied, canned, jammed, and turned into fruit leather. The sweet scent of peach lingers in the kitchen day and night prompting me to get ever more creative with showing my devotion. As I was eating a cup of Greek yogurt and sliced peaches early this morning, I was hit with the sudden desire to bathe in it. “Okay girl, this is getting out of control” I told myself, and then realized it was my esthetician instinct taking over. Peaches are great for the skin both internally and externally! The vitamins, minerals and macronutrients and antioxidants in peaches benefit your skin in many ways, boosting the look and feel as well as protecting it from diseases.

Vitamin C
Vitamin C boosts the production of collagen, a compound that gives your skin elasticity; it is effective in helping collagen production when taken internally as well as when applied externally. A one cup serving of peaches gives you 10.2 mg of this vitamin; the recommended amount is 75 to 90 mg of vitamin C daily. In addition to the influence the vitamin C in peaches has on collagen, it also works with protein to improve your immune system, helping to ward off skin infections.

The National Institutes of Health's Office of Dietary Supplements website reveals that people who get less selenium may have an increased risk of some forms of skin cancer. Eating peaches helps you increase your selenium intake -- 1 cup of peaches contains 0.2 mg of selenium; your meal plan should include 55 mcg of this mineral each day. Serve peaches with cottage cheese, a food high in selenium, to boost your daily intake.

Vitamin A
The vitamin A in peaches may also contribute to cancer prevention. A study published in the March 2004 issue of "Clinical Cancer Research" indicates that high doses of vitamin A reduced the risk of some skin cancers by 32 percent. While the amount of vitamin A in a 1 cup serving of peaches -- 502 IU -- does not approach the 50,000 to 75,000 IU of vitamin A called for in the study, it is a very tasty way to up your vitamin A intake. External Application Peaches are great for toning the skin, revitalizing it, and help combat dryness. The pulp is quite soothing to irritated skin. When combined with other products such as honey, the peach is a perfect summer sunburn quencher. Norabloom offers a seasonal, summer peach mask made with locally grown peaches and local raw honey. I have found a way to justify this obsession-whew! My clandestine affair with peaches continues……

Milia- Yes I treat these!

A Milium (plural milia), also called a milk spot or an oil seed, is a keratin-filled cyst that can appear just under the epidermis. They are small, white (sometimes look pale yellow) and usually appear around the eyes, cheeks or eyelids. Milia are commonly associated with newborn babies but can appear on people of all ages. Milia can also be confused with stubborn whiteheads. In children, milia often disappear within two to four weeks. In adults they may require removal by a Physician, Dermatologist, or an Aesthetician.

I can treat these with the Advanced Skin Classic Treatment: READ MORE HERE

New Spa Review, BLUSH...

Erica from "FingerLakesSpaGirl Blog" loved her experience at Norabloom. YIPPIE!! She was a pleasure to meet and pamper...

My skin looks and feels – AMAZING after my first facial at  Norabloom Beauty Lounge in Ithaca, NY!!!
I am incredibly  happy with the results after the Signature, 90 minute Facial I received from licensed Aesthetician and Makeup Artist, Holly Green… In fact, I think my skin has improved everyday since the facial which was 5 days ago, and not only the skin on my face, but on my neck and decollate as well.  Think – smooth, glowing, clean and smaller looking pores – YES!
I walked into the Norabloom Beauty Lounge and found myself with an instant smile.  The waiting area is welcoming and decorated beautifully with touches of femininity everywhere.. soft browns and greens on the walls and window treatments, a light breeze & sunshine coming in from the open door with lovely fresh potted flowers, and a perfectly set up product/retail area, - I love products! So I was sucked into this area right away admiring Holly’s neatly organized product line, Norabloom Botanicals.  This natural product line is petroleum-free & paraben free, uses no artificial colors, and contains primarily organic ingredients.
Holly took me from her waiting area into the treatment room and offered me the choice of  a cool carrot juice shot or a cool green smoothie shot – Yum :)  The rooms cozy atmosphere and music offer a instant disconnect from the world outside, allowing my relaxation journey to begin!
I crawled under the soft blankets and sheets on to the heated table and into my cocoon for the next 90 minutes.  Holly’s application of products during the facial is done with great intention and she is detailed and thorough with her technique throughout.  During my facial I experienced the amazing scents of Norabloom Botanical skin care products, warm moist towels to remove products and a steam that was perfectly positioned over my face – I find sometimes that the steam can seem overwhelming with my breathing if it is too close.  Her extractions were effective, but not painful, and i really appreciated the special attention to my lips with the Babelicious Lip Balm.
Holly sent me into an even deeper state of relaxation with massage to my neck, shoulders, arms, hands, and feet during my face mask.  I also appreciated the invigorating and detailed face and scalp massage.  After your service, Holly emails you an overview of your personal Norabloom experience that includes products used in your service and recommendations for follow up sessions… I loved this individual attention!  It allowed me to just be, after my service,… I didn’t have to focus on what she recommended or what was used, I just enjoyed being pampered and my relaxation.
As I got dressed I noticed a small card on the table with a quote from Gandhi that said “The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.”  Holly clearly demonstrates her passion for pampering and caring for you during your individual Beauty Lounge experience at Norabloom Beauty Lounge.    I left feeling well from the inside – out and gained a true sense of peace and relaxation, plus great looking skin!
Thank You Holly ~ Norabloom Beauty Lounge!!!

Love That Pretty Face

I want every woman to wake up and love what they see in the mirror. However, we are more than just a pretty face- we have heart, we have soul, we have strength and we are who we are. We all know if we feel good on the inside, we look good on the outside. February not only reminds me to buy my Valentine chocolate, it also reminds me to take a moment and love myself and all that I am and all that I have become. I have embraced many life changes in the last year. Most of the changes I made were some of the hardest decisions life has thrown me this far. (Life- please be kind this coming year) These decisions empowered me to be the strong woman I was meant to be, the woman my mother and daughter are proud of. I look into my mirror in the morning and say- I am feeling good and I am loving what I see. I have relied on spa treatments, yoga and bodywork to get me through this last year. The power that lies within a simple spa treatment can be so profound, I almost do not have the words to describe it. All I know is a renewed woman is a powerful woman. I invite you to give yourself some lovin'n this February because YOU & YOUR PRETTY FACE ARE SO WORTH IT!
